Bullnose Inserts (Metric and Inch)
Our bullnose carbide insert family is designed to provide highly accurate effective cutting characteristics, in a wide variety of materials. Premium carbide and state-of-the-art coatings are used to ensure the best possible performance and durability. Our application specific coatings maximize insert life and reduce machine cycle time. The various styles of insert grinds have identical locating features to ensure accuracy and consistency in the Sterling Edge tool body. Special application coatings available upon request. The most popular radii for these inserts are stocked. Special corner radii can be ordered to suit your application.
Flat Bottom Finishing Inserts
Sterling Edge's Flat Bottom inserts are drafted 3deg at the bottom designed to provide effective Z-level and plunge milling with a full 90 side wall and multiple standard corner radii.
Use with flat bottom or ballnose holder.
Backdraft Finishing Inserts
Sterling Edge Backdraft inserts are the standard bearer in profile milling on draft walls where the application requires chip clearance. These inserts are drafted 3deg at the bottom and on the side walls designed to provide effective Z-level and plunge milling without chatter.
Use with flat bottom or ballnose holder.
Sweep Finishing Inserts
The Sterling Edge Sweep Insert blends the clearance of a backdraft with the straight wall cleanup of a 90deg flat bottom. The smaller flat on the side wall and the bottom of the insert allows a larger step down or ramp rate and provides superior finishes on straight walls and pockets. Combined with a carbide or heavy metal shank holder this insert is highly cost effective for deep pocket finishing on both pre-hard and hardened applications, eliminating the need to EDM hardened pockets or the frustration of trying to get desired results with expensive long fluted end mills that chatter and deflect.
Use with flat bottom or ballnose holder.
New Feed Mill Inserts
Sterling Edge's feed mill inserts are designed to satisfy today's demand for high-feed machining. The high feed geometry with 3deg drafted side walls are excellent for circle interpolation of large holes and pockets as well as profile cutting. Using light depths of cuts, high-speed machining is capable of low spindle loads because of vertical cutting pressure, less vibration and deflection, giving you high chip loads per tooth without excessive spindle wear. Sterling Edge Feed Mill Insert to perform reliably unattended without the worry of a catastrophic insert failure.
Use with flat bottom or ballnose holder.

Hog Nose Insert
Sterling Edge Hog Nose insert has precision ground backdraft geometry relieved 3deg at the tip and side with large corner radius for spiral and pocket milling, Allows larger step-over milling of pre-hard and hardened flat surfaces at higher speeds than tools with smaller corner radii. Increased material removal with reduced machine cycle time. Used for semi-finish, leaves smother flatter surface ideal for faster finish operation.
Use with ballnose holder.
